REFLECTION

ICT in biology is a vital subject in order to have an interactive kind of teaching and learning process. In this class, I have learnt a lot of methods to be used in teaching. To elicit the student prior knowledge, there are suitable to use Engage, Empower and Enhance model. By using this model, we can elicit the student knowledge; first of all, we have to get ready for their misconception that they will give to you. Then, you can do some experiment to prove whether their concept is right or wrong. After that, you can conclude what the discussed topics is all about. This method is important because student nowadays need to explore themselves. This model is easy to be used but may be some students especially in the rural area cannot accept this method immediately. But still we can use is levelly.

Data logging is the easiest way to collect data in some experiment. It save more times, we can use the other time to search extra information and discuss with lecturer. Instead of that, we also can finish the experiment at the right time. Unluckily, not all school can afford to buy the data logger tools and not all the teachers have skill to handle the data logger. Usage of simulation and modeling are the best to me, because it is fun. This modeling and simulation method can attract student. The modeling for example is a kind of game where the student can try to manipulate the experiment.

To solve the problem about ICT are first, the ministry have to spend a little in ICT for all school. Besides, the teachers also have to be given the best training to use all the ICT tools. 

MY TEACHING PHYLOSOPHY

A teacher is a human engineer. If the engineer builds the building but teacher builds human. A teacher is not teaching but educate human in order to have a successful person in many ways and help them to find the right path of life. The greatest teacher is not just to make people success in academic but in life. As an educator, I have the utmost confidence that every individual is able to strive for success in their academic performance. In order to realize that, I should try my best to promote growth by employing creativity, stressing the importance of education as well as giving my students the freedom to think and discover knowledge. Moreover, I also appreciate that each different individual is unique therefore any ideas, opinions, criticisms and suggestions from them should be taken into consideration. These aspects are essential towards planning and developing more comprehensive lessons that will benefit everyone in the long run. Hence, my student is encouraged to value effort and the determination to succeed.

We also have to be close to student .This is important because we can elicit they talent to become what they suppose to be. I should practice professionalism such as showing good leadership skills for my students. My favorite line would be, “Be just, that is closer to faith”. In my opinion, being an authoritarian will only create a distance between a teacher and a student. As a teacher, I should be able to attend to my students’ personal and academic needs whenever needed. In addition, I will try to create a comfortable learning environment based on respect instead of fear. In order to achieve that, I must build strong rapport with my students so that all of us can learn in a conducive and fun environment. Likewise, communication is apparently an important key to an effective teaching and learning process in the academic setting.

Last but not least, my students should be encouraged to explore every opportunity to utilize the authentic resources around their environment. In order to achieve this, I would vary my teaching styles while at the same time encouraging critical thinking skills among my students. In my personal point of view, a teacher should dare to be different. I think that learning should not only be limited within the four walls. I will try to make my lessons more relevant and appropriate to my students so that they can relate whatever they learn in the classroom with the ‘real’ environment outside of the academic setting. At the end of the day, my students should be able to have self-confidence, good interpersonal skills and excellent knowledge once they have mastered the crucial skills to survive out there.
